KEVIN OATES | EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

After 8 years of teaching in public schools both in Maine and New York, Kevin Oates decided to launch Maine Youth Rock Orchestra (MYRO) in February 2014. MYRO is the combination of his two passions; music education and performing with bands and artists from across the country. As a classical cellist with a degree in Music Education from University of Southern Maine School of Music, Oates found excitement and drive through playing cello in alternative genres of music. He realized that students need this outlet and ability to apply their skill set into genres of music that they connect with, without compromising technique or playing ability.

Kevin has been featured on NPR ‘First Watch’, Consequence of Sound, Strings Magazine and has presented twice at TEDx. Along with being the founder and executive director of MYRO, Oates teaches a small private studio and has composed | recorded strings on over 30 albums.

Maine Youth Rock Orchestra is an extension of my passion to redefine music education.

And we are just getting started.
